A lot of people out there thinks that they need the biggest and best machines to create a sustainable crop to feed there family. If you look at the history of many farms in the past, there are two things you truly need to produce. Love and dedication are the only two things you need to make a difference and it will show. Yes I do agree that machines will make a difference regarding to speed and yet sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses as my Grandmother always said. When picking out machines, you want to stay within your budget. I would be smart and find a good used tractor with some implements such as a disk harrow, a plow, and a box blade. From there large areas will be short work. If a tractor is beyond your budget, a simple gas powered cultivator will do just fine.
From there, you will have your land cleaned out and the soil loosened up to start the preparation of the soil. If you stick with natural fertilizers such as cow manure, lime, and organic compost. Stuff that you throw away everyday is great fertilizer. If you do things right, you can have a bountiful harvest for pennies on the dollar.
